Over the years Indigenous Knowledge has guided Ogiek people on how to sustainably utilize their natural resources using a variety of traditional methods to deal with environmental conservation and disaster management.

It is evident that Indigenous Knowledge is alive, and actively used by the Ogiek people. There is a strong attachment to the natural environment and deep respect for the indigenous Mau Forest by the Ogiek people.

The Ogiek had strong ecological governance and social orientation. The forest was and is still their security and protector of their culture, and it is their food store and pharmacy and other livelihoods. It is the desire of the Ogiek to be left alone to continue practicing their traditions in line with their ancestors.

PROHOME desires to help the community reclaim the Ogiek cultural practices for ecological preservation and income generation for the community’s economic advancement..
