The Human Right to Livelihood and Land is the human right of all women, men, youth and children to a dignified and productive livelihood which enables them to live in peace, security, justice and dignity. All people have the fundamental human right to fulfilling, dignified work and livelihood, including equal access to land and productive resources, and to basic labor protections. PROHOME is mandated with the task of ensuring the ogiek people enjoy this as their basic fundamental rights..
Since its inception PROHOME has held several consultative meetings and public forums with the council of elders and the community members. PROHOME is also actively following up on ongoing Ogiek Litigation Processes while following up on implementations of already won cases
On 21st Oct,2019, PROHOME conducted a community land awareness public forum with the Ogiek community members at Mariashoni, East Mau in Nakuru county.
The community members were taken through various steps to acquire community land. The forum was informed by the cases won by the Ogiek People and the community’s urge to be given back their ancestral land. In attendance were the Newton Letuya and 21 others case applicants amongst other community members.
